It's easy to use, well-designed, and intuitive. Stencyl is one of the best and simplest game-creating tools that can be found today. Other elements, like the physics, are automatically added by the program to make the process even easier. With this editor, you can create from scratch or edit graphics and drag them into your games. One of the best features in Stencyl is the image-editing tool, which is easy to master for anyone who has used Adobe Photoshop. It also has a large variety of easily accessible multimedia sources for images and sounds. Best of all, it has a 'drag and drop' interface that makes controlling elements a breeze.

This program requires some dedication, though it is relatively easy to handle considering its vast possibilities. I've been using this for a couple of years now. The sweet part for teachers is that it is free. Basically, it's blocks-based programming made specifically for game design.
Stencyl is "a drag-and-drop gameplay designer" (Stencyl website), modeled after the MIT Scratch project. I keep trying to squeeze its potential awesomeness out. I really really really want to love Stencyl. The Educator's Kit has a setup guide, two weeks of lessons, student activities, and a final project.
